Revelation: Adding and Subtracting

Revelation 21:3-4

And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain:for the former things are passed away.

Revelation 21:3-4

Life on the New Earth will be better by both addition and subtraction.

Add – a new level of intimacy with God.

Subtract – death, sorrow, crying, and pain.

Jesus

Jesus! it is the name which moves the harps of heaven to melody. Jesus! the life of all our joys. If there be one name more charming, more precious than another, it is this name.

It is woven into the very warp and woof of our psalmody. Many of our hymns begin with it, and scarcely any, that are good for anything, end without it.

It is the sum total of all delights. It is the music with which the bells of heaven ring; a song in a word; an ocean for comprehension, although a drop for brevity; a matchless oratorio in two syllables; a gathering up of the hallelujahs of eternity in five letters.

Charles Spurgeon

It seems right to close this blog by lifting up the King of kings, the giver of hope, and the Rock that we have leaned heavily on since Jesse’s death. To Jesus be all power and glory. Forever. Amen.

The End of a Blog

Hi Everyone,

It seems to me that thresholdofheaven the blog has fulfilled its purpose and it is time to move on. I feel that its main purpose was to get Jesse’s story out of my head and into words. It is now preserved for his surviving brothers, which was one of my goals. Especially, the younger two, Noah and Mattias, who will not remember much of their older brother in the years ahead. I feel that they will appreciate having Jesse’s story and a part of our grief journey chronicled.

Of Soldiers and Dragons

The duty of every soldier in the army of the Lord is daily, with all his heart, and soul, and strength, to fight against the dragon.

Have You Tried Hard Enough?

20130210-072425.jpg

Mattias and Noah resting in Dad’s finished work.

For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

Romans 10:3

In order to be right before God, we need to submit. Not try harder.

Submission is peace and rest. Trying harder is angst and stress.

Have you ever thought, “I just need to try harder.” Then failed again?

Perhaps effort is not the problem. Perhaps it is submission.

How to Pray for Others in Times of Sickness

There were many individuals and congregations that prayed for Jesse when he was sick. We even had the elders of our church anoint him with oil and pray over him when he was in critical care.

A friend suggested we invite a speaker who was in the area to pray over Jesse. Apparently, this godly man was known for having his prayers of healing answered quite often. We invited him and he did come.

Blog Change Update

Little House on the Prairie (TV series)

Hi Everyone,

It seems good to me to separate the story portions of this blog from the non-fiction entries. From here on I will post the Sinner Series and any other fictional writings on my new blog designed solely for that purpose - www.herofantasyfiction.com .

If you are enjoying the Sinner Series, please go and follow the new blog. I hope to post other fictional snippets there as well from time to time. I am also planning another series. It is a western/fantasy adventure story. The main character’s name will be Jesse (a tribute to my son). I envision it to be a mix up of the pioneering spirit of Little House on the Prairie, the adventure of a Young Riders, and the fantastical wonders and dangers of Narnia.

As the name of the new site implies, I desire to write stories about heroes. Jesse loved hero stories, and I would love nothing more than to write stories that I think he would want to read. Hero stories , whether real or fictional, can inspire us to live more nobly in our own daily lives.

Plus, I am personally grieved at how many heroes in books and film today are portrayed as many different shades of gray-no moral compass. I am not advocating heroes without flaws, but heroes who recognize their flaws and acknowledge and work on overcoming them. I think of the great Bible heroes like David, Sampson, and Joshua just to name a few.

I think also of the Hero of heroes, who indeed has no flaws. Jesus is the ultimate inspiration for us all. The best qualities of any hero always point to Him.

Sometimes it is about You (Lisa Bueckert)

20130205-164529.jpg
There was a line of people in the bank on a busy Friday morning. It was the first of the month. As seems to be normal there were only two tellers open. At the front of the line was a woman talking on her cell phone. Her turn came and she approached the teller still talking on the phone.

Sinner – The Hunt (Part 3)

Wolf by Nici Bueckert

Please visit the Sinner Page to read the story in sequence.

The others were already up. Tinker fed some more wood onto the fire, his rune staff at his side.  Kara held one of her axes in her lap. She looked nervous.

“What is it?” asked Sinner, as he rubbed the residual sleep from his eyes.

Rayn looked up from where he had started stringing his bow. “I don’t know, but there’s more than one, and they have Wolf on edge.” He indicated the wolf prowling the edge of the light cast by the fire. A low growl emanating from his throat.

Suddenly, a series of spine chilling wails arose from all directions around their tiny camp. Sinner’s heart thumped in his chest. He fumbled for his staff, clutching it tightly as he rolled into a crouch, putting his back to the fire.  Continue reading

White as Snow

20130202-184523.jpg

Isaiah 1:18

“Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord:
though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red like crimson,
they shall become like wool.
